Traffic records in Ellis County do not all go to one counter. It is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed Friday. First appearances are Mondays and Thursdays at 8 a.m. The municipal court says failure to comply or pay may lead to a warrant and/or license suspension.

Traffic Diversion and CDL Limits
Hays Municipal Court diversion is not open to every ticket. The city lists exclusions that include school zone infractions or offenses, fleeing or eluding with chase, certain commercial driver's license violations, injury wrecks, violent offenses, sex offenses, and offenses involving children as victims. A person must have no diversion in the prior year. Hays lists court costs of $100, a $150 diversion fee for non-alcohol charges, and a $300 diversion fee for alcohol-related charges, except DUI.
